I saw a TV commercial this evening for a new mini-van where one of the touted features that comes standard is... a six-CD-changer.
Compact discs. People still listen to those? Really?
Obviously they're shooting for that still-doesn't-have-an-iPod demographic.
The center console still has slots to hold all of your cassette tapes.
ReplyDeleteI've been car shopping recently and honestly, it's like looking at dinosaurs. Shouldn't an ipod jack come fucking STANDARD already? SERIOUSLY?
ReplyDeleteI even found several cars that wouldn't play mp3s off cds. I mean, how 2003 is that?
Well, I won't be buying one, as I need something for my 8-tracks and albums, which although they may skip as I drive, Penny Lane and Sweet Home Alabama just won't be the same without the scratch of the record, you know? Don't even get me started on The Beatles White Album.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, did they mention anything about a feature which can hold fruit rollups without melting them?
be well,

The irony of all this is I have a '95 Honda which only has an AM/FM-cassette player for the stereo. I'd had a CD player in my home stereo since '87, but at the time of my auto purchase (in '94) it was still very much an extra to get that.
ReplyDeleteAlso, my previous car had been broken into--4 times!--so I wanted a nice, simple stock stereo to reduce the likelihood of attracting thieves.
So I went with the standard and just recorded all my CDs on cassette (where I could get an impressive 2 albums worth on 1--woo hoo!) to listen to them while motoring. (And then if someone did break in, all I lost was cassettes, not the CDs.)
I'm sure that iPod jacks will become standard around the time the devices have been replaced by some newer, better thing.
Aren't we supposed to be taking jet packs to work by now? (And with any luck once jet packs are viable, there will be some kind of fruit rollup heat protection.)
